Default bought car from dealer but part was missing - pls advise

    Hello everyone,
after little advice please - my partner bought a car from his local dealer, back in April. Car seemed OK, he got 3 month warranty. Everything was fine till this week when the car started acting funny and overheating, he took it to garage and it turned out that the thermostat was missing and that caused the water pump to go.
He paid for the repairs, he had to take 2 days off work as couldn't commute - is there any chance of recovering cost from the dealer?
    Thank you for your help

    Outside warranty period?

Thermostat will not cause pump to go.

Unfortunately by having the vehicle repaired already, he has lost the statutory rights given by the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

The purchaser can reject the car or require its repair by the trader if it is not satisfactory.
Failure of a part would indicate not satisfactory.
If fault appears within the first six months it is deemed that the fault was present when the car was sold.

He could ask the trader for a contribution, but I doubt the request will be met favourably.
