  • DLA question

    ok an odd one.

Yesterday I had Social Services on my doorstep, turns out someone has basically reported 30% of the families in the village for anything from (in my case) dog crap throughout the house to (in my neighbours case) her having 6 kids in one bedroom.

Luckily for me my animals are all house trained and I had just hit my house the day before, and my neighbour has 2 kids so it was put down as malicious and no further action, but while the lovely (and I mean that guys) social services guy was with us he looked at my hands and asked me what was wrong with them.

I told him and he looked at me and said "Are you claiming DLA cos you are entitled to it?"

TBH I have never claimed a benefit that isn't child benefit or tax credits in my life! I don't get anything because I am working and I own my own home.

According to this bloke, because my total income (even in my new job) is going to be under 20k I can claim for DLA and possibly more?

    Is this right?

Will I be doing anything illegal/unethical if I do this? I have never claimed before because I work more than 16 hours a week, I am not a single parent and I am capable or walking unaided (at the moment).
I don't need blue badges as my disability is confined to my hands, ok sometimes driving can hurt but you get through that.

Also if i DO claim, will you guys help me with the form?

    Thanks

    Callie

            Re: DLA question

Yep was brought up the same. Started work at 14, Saturday job and never stopped until I was 29 when I ended up a single parent of a newborn. I felt like a black sheep, too much hearing daily mail reader attitudes I think! Then told myself welfare benefits are there as a safety net for exactly those types of situation. We've not abused the system in any way and paid considerably into it so if we need a bit of help we shouldn't feel guilty about it.
Hard I know, but that's because we're lovely
It's not wrong if it's justified.

              Re: DLA question

DLA does not exist any more and has been replaced by PIP - ok I think some people still get DLA but are being moved over to PIP.

To be honest you need to be quite impaired to get PIP and some of the rules are just plain wrong

I wouldn't even like to speculate as to what you can claim for
              https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/Gl...and-points.pdf

The link provides a list of points but while some of them seem quite simple they really aren't. You need to score 8 points on daily care or 8 points on mobility to qualify, scoring 7 for each category doesn't give you anything

Just to show you how crazy the rules are, if you can put two slices of bread in a toaster and some beans in a microwave you can prepare a simple meal - ok so you might end up in hospital with malnutrition but who cares about that
If you are so depressed you can not be arsed to cook a meal it doesn't matter because they will ask you if you can do the above- yes of course you 'can' but if you don't they don't care

Then on the other extreme I know someone who gets full care and mobility yet has just put a shed up and levelled his back garden and had it turfed - on top of that he has thousands hidden around the house so it doesn't go into his bank account - bitter and twisted moi? never, To be fair he is quite ill and at 69 won't make old bones but hey ho
