Very ashamed to say I was involved in shoplifting; all my friends were doing it and I wanted to take part and so I did. Me and my friend got caught, my items came up to £13.50 and hers came up to £50. I offered to pay for my item, which they refused. We had to give our name and address and have a adult confirm our details as I am 17 and she is 16. I already went on legal beagles and got my information and was advised to ignore them. Even sent them a letter saying I had no right to an appropriate adults and there was no loss or damage amounting to £190- but they sent me a letter back saying they need compensation and that many people have lost cases again RLP- Should I pay?

    NO!

You say you have read other threads about RLP on this forum so you know that the advice is always to ignore them.
Unfortunately you have already communicated with them, and this only seems to encourage them.
It flags you up as vulnerable, and they prey on the vulnerable...... which means they will increase te pressure on you.

As you are a young person are you still living at home with parents, and if so are they aware of the incident?

It is possible that RLP will contact them if they don't receive payment from you.
RLP should not do this, but they pretend it is because they are oncerned for your well being.
Right! It is so they can pressurise your parents!

Accordingly, if you are living at home, i would advise you let your parents know.
It may be difficult for you, but hopefully they will support you
It was not the crime of the century and IMO RLP commit the greater wrong by setting themselves up as some type of vigilante organisation.

Well I don't know you, nor your parents, but as the father of a number of now grown up chidren I would have expected them to tell their mother and me if they were inany sort of trouble.
We might have been disappointed, but they would have received our full support, and we would have preferred to hear from them directly, rather than from an outfit like RLP.

You can always show your parents your posting, and links to other threads about RLP, and if they want they can contact us themselves

        Whatever you decide, good luck.
Don't let this minor peccadillo prey on your mind, but learn from it.
Concentrate on your studies (I assume you are still a student!) and get on with the rest of your life.
Feel free to return here for support and advice whenever you want
