Council tax paid but enforcement saying I owe over 300

When my ex partner left me and didn't tell me he hadn't been paying our council tax it ended up in arrears. I made the inal payment of £77 in august at which the day after I received a letter from rossendales. As I had paid I ignored the letter as I thought they had crossed in the post. Last month I got home to find a valid letter for over £300. I text the bailiff to say I had no arrears with the council which he replied contact the council and explain. Which I did after many efforts to get in touch with them. It concerns me these visits as I am a single mum and a sometime my 13 year old is at home and I don't want someone banging on the door and scaring her. Finally got a reply from the council saying they acknowledge the final settlement I made but I owe £310 to rossendales broke down as 75 when the account was transferred to them and two hundred and odd for the bailiff visit and I need to contact h to make payment in the meantime I have received a letter from rossendales saying they require full pimento by return of post and my account is back with collection enforcer. I'm panicking now if he calls again. Surely I cannot have incurred fees of £310 for arrears of £77 which was paid to the council within a week of it been transferred to rossendales. I just can't afford this any advice appreciated thanks. Shaney
