  • PRA Letter

I thought I finally seen off the DCAs but have now been contacted by PRA claiming I owe money in relation to MBNA from an account allegedly opened in the late 90s.
They're claiming I owe in excess of £20k with charges but are prepared to accept less that £1k as settlement.
I've got no idea where this came from and have certainly not had any communication regarding it in the past 6 years.
I'm guessing I send the standard CCA/Statute Barred letter to them?
Anything else I should be doing? Are they likely to prosecute?

CCA letter definitely ... to see what they've got Personally I'd be holding back on the SB'd bit until you receive a response to the cca

      Good morning,

If PRA is offering a huge discount like that it's likely they are aware the debt is statute barred and hope you don't know that.

Does this appear on your credit file? You can check Noddle and Clear Score Free Online.

A suitable statute barred letter should kill this off pretty quickly.

        Thanks Nem,
My file is clear on both. There hasn't even been any searches made by them. I do actually have an MBNA account opened this year, which is concerning me if I do start pushing for a SAR or direct CCA request later on.
I'll send PRA a statute barred letter - do you think I need the CCA too?

Yes I would send a CCA request under separate cover.

Make sure your letter states that you do not acknowledge any liability to PRA because the alleged debt is statute barred.

For reference I've sent them two separate recorded letters for SB and CCA.

              Re: PRA Letter

I've just checked my records and I made a CCA request to Thames Credit (AK) in late 2007 for the same account. I also have a follow up letter from early 2008 advising that they'd sent me an application form. I also made a SAR to Thames at the time but I'll have to do some more digging regarding their reply. I've had no other communication until today. @nemesis45

I had a letter today accepting that this was SB and they would not be pursuing. They also returned my PO. No doubt I'll get another demand in a few weeks which they'll claim was sent in 'error'.

As you said, they knew it was SB before they sent the letter.

                      Re: PRA Letter

No surprise to get another letter from PRA today. This one relates to HBOS and also to a thread I started three years ago re Mack Hall. Same format asking for a one-off payment against a significantly higher amount. I know there's no agreement for this as HBOS told me they didn't have it back in 2007 and I've certainly made no payments or acknowledgement since.
I'll send them copies of the letters sent last week and I guess I'll send the PO back too!

Same outcome for HBOS, PO returned and account closed due to SB. No doubt they'll find something else to send me soon.
