  • Excel - wont answer to me!! Afraid its a tactic to extort money

Hi guys wondering if anyone csn help me?? My girlfriend had a car accident last year sometime. (Cleverly came off road and hit a tree) police fire and council all in attendance. Council due to crew mananger of local retained fire service called them as he also works for council and would get paid for the callout too. I know this as i worked for them for a while. Anyway my mrs has received s lettef from excel requiring her to pay £217.88 quoting a callout from dyfed powys police. Now when she has called the office they have told her to ring a mr. Andrews as they arent dealing with it but he is. Problem we have is not answering. Letter states 5 days to arrange full settlement. Now firstly we are unsure what exactly we are getting charged for and this is first we have heard of this debt. Probably as we have moved twice in last year admittedly. Any advice suggestions?? I have just told her to write to the office asking for further details and why they cant deal with it as it is them she has had letter off?? Bit stumped??? Dont want to incur more charges as we cant afford to pay this amount now but was willing to arrange payment plan. Any help much appreciated!!

    Hi and welcome.

Without knowing the full details I would hazard a guess that this is for producing an accident report.

In any event, if you made a claim under your insurance policy, this charge should be met by the insurers to whom you should pass this account.

Othershere are more adept at dealing with outfits like Excel and hopefully will be along soon with more deailed advice.

Ok great thanks. Would make sense as she didnt claim on insurance at all and just paid for the polices recovery and the fees incurred for the overnight storage of car!

In that case contact police directly as I imagine Excel will have added their collection fee.
I assume they are acting as debt collectors and not enforcing a CCJ?

If it was a CCJ Excel would be saying so.
Get in touch directly with plod, and ask them what is about.
