  • Rossendales and legal aid

Please help. We have a legal aid debt which we are happy to pay. But also have other debts. We use stepchange and Rossendales are refusing to deal with them or use the income/outgoing expenditure sheet we used for them. They have applied for an interim restriction against out house. We just want to be able to pay them a sensible amount of money and keep paying our other bills. Any advice gratefully recieved.

Can you be clear about this debt - you say "we", is this a joint debt? is there a CCJ for it? If there is, when was the CCJ obtained? What are the terms of the CCJ - are you making the monthly payments?

Let's also look at the bigger picture. How what is your total unsecured debt with Stepchange? How much are you paying to Stepchange each month? How much equity do you have in your house? Is your mortgage repayment or interest only, when does it end?

Are you expecting any major changes in your finances in the next few years - children leaving home, retiring, impending redundancy etc?

I am so sorry for the late reply. My dad has been dreadfully ill. We are now at the day where we have to sign a charge to be put on the house. There is no CCJ we are still negotiating a repayment. The debt is for £10000 and we have around £100000 joint equity. The debt is solely in my husbands name. Our other debts amount to £40000 none are secured and we have been regularly paying around £200 per month for a number of years. Which all seem happy with. We are not expecting any big changes in circumstances soon. Our mortgage has 12 years left and is repayment. Please can someone also tell me if this is my husband debt can they make us sell? Thanks. I really appreciate your help x
