  • Employment Extension Offer - Retraction

Hi there, I’m on a fixed 12 Months Company PAYE Contract and my company had offered me an extension for another 6 months.

When the letter from HR arrived I wasn’t happy as the matter was being dealt by an outside contractor working in my department and I insisted that a full time management employee handle confidential HR matters. I mentioned I wasn’t happy with the terms and therefore I didn’t sign it for 11 days.

As a result my company retracted the offer even though this was a full 2 months before my contract was due to end. There was nothing in the letter that stipulated a date as to when I had to signed by or had I been given any indication that if didn’t sign the letter, that the offer may be withdrawn. For your information when I had my PDC a few months ago I passed every task with flying colours and met all my obligations. So my work isn’t an issue here.

To add insult to injury the company are openly recruiting for my replacement.

The company have subsequently offered me monthly rolling contract until the new person comes on board so I can train this person up, which I have refused, now they’ve started using bullying tactics to make my last three weeks a miserable, to be honest I’m now at a stage where I no longer want to work at the firm and would like to leave without giving notice.

First question is this legal can they offer me a contract extension and withdraw it without any good reason and then start recruiting for my replacement person? And secondly can I leave the company now as I’m so disgusted and stressed by their bullying tactics?

    Many thanks.
