    Hi and welcome

Bottom line: He has protection from Consumer Rights Act 2015 Part 1 Chap 4

To resolve: what sort of garage involved: main dealer or back street or what?

Generally speaking would suggest a return to the garage and discuss, but if he has lost faith in them it will depend on the sort of outfit as to alternative approaches.

Ultimately, you would need to argue that there has been a breach of an implied term in that the trader would carry out the services with reasonable care and skill, as per s49(1) Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Follow the usual approach of sending a letter of claim giving 14 days to remedy or refund, then issuing small claims matter.
