• Bailiff visit for landlord's debt

Hi

This morning, I have had a visit from a High Court Enforcement Officer. They have advised that my landlord hasn't been paying the Council Tax on a different property from the one I am currently living in and will be returning tomorrow between 6pm-9pm to seize furniture from the property.

I rented the property as being fully furnished, are the baliff's allowed to do this if the property that they are visiting is unrelated to the property on which the council tax is owed?

And also, are bailiff's allowed to seize furniture? If this takes place, would anyone recommend taking legal action against the Landlord for breach of contract as my tenancy agreement states that the property is fully furnished which it won't be if the goods are removed?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Surely telling you about your landlord's debt is a breach of Data Protection?
Does the HCEO know that the landlord does not live at the property? Or that the property is rented by you as furnished?

I'm not very knowledgeable in bailiff issues myself (hopefully Milo will pop on soon) but I'm sure he shouldn't have talked to you :tinysmile_hmm_t2:

HCEOs do not collect on Council Tax!
