    So I am leaving my current role after receiving and accepting another job offer. In my current contract, it states that I must pay £625 back in training costs on the termination of my employment, whereas in the term and conditions of employment (which I signed in the contract to say I had read and agreed with) it states I only have to pay £150 in these costs.

    I would like some advice as to whether I have any grounds to argue if I am asked to pay the higher amount, and also what sort of rights a company has to take money from me after my employment with them has ceased. Thanks!

    Yes, you can argue for this. It is your right. Already you have signed in the contract which says that you have to pay only £150 as cost in terms and conditions of employment.

      The contract could well serve as a variation to the terms and conditions, thus overruling the clauses specifically mentioned. Was there anything else in your contract specific to your employment that wasn't covered, or was slightly different in the terms ( are the terms quite generic whereas the contract is specific?)

      Think we'd need to know the exact phrasing of the contract.

        As [MENTION=6]Amethyst[/MENTION] has said we would need to know the exact wording in both documents and the date that each were signed.

        If you have signed a document agreeing to the repayment of costs for training on termination then your employer can deduct these from final salary, however if the amount owed is greater than the final salary due then they should discuss with you repayment of the outstanding balance once you have ceased employment. However lets have a look at the wording first if you can post it up (anonymised if necessary).

        Does the contract document have a statement that where clauses contained in that document are also within the terms and conditions of employment document then the contract document clauses will be the applicable ones?
