  • British Gas prepayment meter fitted for debt fiasco

    Hey

We have had a meter inforced onto us for not paying gas, now thats not the problem as such, the problem is that the way they have done it and the costs. Let me explain,

We have been with british gas since june 12, and they sent out bills amounting to 71 uo until Nov12 which we havent paid, since then until feb we used 488 pounds worth of gas, which sounds high, but they said that I had a debt of z207 which they are going to court and get warrent to change meter, this letter wasnt opened as it was addressed ti the occupier now ti me if its a legal notice to court why havent they used our names and due to this I didnt pay and the meter fitted. If I had known this was going to happen I would of paid, I thiught the dd was working so now with.the legal costs I owe over 800 pounds. So I want to know why a court has let this happened as I had no choice to go to the court case to make a payme.t option as I didnt know it was happening. Also ilwhen they fitted a meter it was two BG boys but they charged me fir a locksmith and a debt recovery guy.....

On my meter it had a debt of 601, when I told the complaints team they have this also incorrect and. I had paid alot more then what they said, but witb the debt at 601 it made sence, I got the shots of this figure on my ohone but today I checked cos I knew they would uo the debt it has been changed, 300 pounds of this is Non Gas Debt as its court fost and the locksmith costs but its been put on as a gas debt and the NGD icon is zero, can they do this? Also can I challenge the fact that the court letter was addressed to the occupier?

Definitely challenge the letter you received. Did the goons who turned up to put the meter in show you the warrant or simply flash it in front of your face? Any court papers or notice of intended proceedings of any kind must be addressed to a person or company. "The Occupier" is not, IMO, a valid form of notice. If you know which court they used, ring the court and ask to speak to someone on the court's Legal Team. Each court has its own Legal Team. I cannot make any guarantees, so don't take this as gospel, but if the court's Legal Team tell you what BG did was unlawful or illegal and it affects the validity of the warrant they obtained, be ready to go down to the court should they ask you to attend.

Hey, I have challenged it and so far nothing, even a polite email to phil bentley. They just said they.were from british gas to change the meter over not even attempt to show any type of id and said it was for debt and the missus just let them cos she felt intimidated by the mannorisms. I will call the court to see what they out on it. But the main thing is if its not a gas debt can they put it on the meter as a gas debt?
