  • Can I be made to pay bailiff charges in one go,

    Hi

Im hoping somebody can help me. I got up this morning to find a letter through my door off a bailiff to say he had knocked to collect £721. It states in the letter that I have to pay the sum outstanding, all in one go from what I can see, as it is a final notice and it states that no other warnings will be issued. I do not have this sort of money, i am on a low income from work, i only take home around £800 a month and I have rent etc to pay and im on my own. Can I be forced to pay this all at once or do I have to let them take my belongings. I have been told by a friend that I must not let them in, is this true also. Please can somebody help me, I feel sick with worry, he says in the letter he is calling back tonight around 7pm.

    Kind Regards

    Pam

Re: Can I be made to pay bailiff charges in one go,

The best course of action will depend upon the kind of debt and the particular bailiff who called.

Your best starting point is to look on the bailiff section on here and then post up more detail about your individual case.

When the fine was imposed -

      1. Were you in court?
      2. Were your means examined?

If you could answer these two questions, it should be easier to guide you in the right direction.

        A thought?
Surely the only person who can FORCE you to pay is a magistrate or judge? if the OP has not got the money and doesnt let the bailiff in unless there is a court order for forced entry he does not have to pay it all in one go it should be sufficient to pay in instalments bout time there was some common sense from these people collecting debts.

Chippie - I don't know if you're still reading this, as you haven't responded to anything yet. If you are, please clarify what the fine is for, and do not let the bailiffs in. Keep doors and windows locked, move your car a few streets away, and talk to them only through the letterbox or from an upstairs window.

We can't help you if you don't respond though.
