  • PIP assessment for DLA indefinite awards put back

How will DLA change from 2013?

Personal Independence Payment will replace Disability Living Allowance (DLA) from 2013 for eligible people of working age (16 to 64 years old).
From 7 October 2013 if you are an existing DLA working age customer and there is a change in your condition you will be invited to claim PIP and your reassessment will begin. You will not be able to choose to remain on DLA.
Starting in October 2015 all other existing working age DLA customers with indefinite or ‘life’ awards will also be reassessed for the new benefit. This process is expected to be completed by 2017.
Anyone of working age (16 to 64 years old) who receives DLA and who needs to be reassessed against the new entitlement criteria will be told in advance. They will be contacted individually with plenty of notice and given a full explanation about what will happen next and what they will need to do.
The change in name from DLA to Personal Independence Payment is to better reflect the intention of the new benefit - to treat each customer as an individual, to enable them to lead a full, active and independent life.
The new assessment being introduced will look at an individual’s ability to carry out a range of key everyday activities, including mobility. It is being developed in conjunction with a group of independent specialists in health, social care and disability, including people with disabilities.

The coalition government have to remain in office long enough to see the new benefit introduced. And to be perfectly honest, that ain't going to happen. I'll give them until the end of February next year, then it's "Bye-bye, Posh Boys". My gut-feeling is that we are in the final days of the political party style of government. What will replace it? It is likely the next Parliament will be dominated by independent MPs. People have had enough of the brand of politics that Cameron & Co. are practising and are fighting back. Demonising and bullying those who can least fight back doesn't not go down well with the vast majority of people.
Life is a journey on which we all travel, sometimes together, but never alone.

This is very worrying to myself and my wife. Elisabeth is 67 and before she was 65 received an indefinite award for both DLA and Mobility. I on the other hand will be 62 this year I am also disabled and received the same awards as my wife as indefinitely.

Now with this new idea of Cameron and his henchmen we are very unsure what the affect will be on our personal situation. As I understand it my wife's award will not be affected, but I on the other hand could well be affected. Also this spare bedroom business is very unsettling too. I have an adapted bungalow with a 1 double and 1 single bed rooms. The spare is used by my son who is getting divorced and is in the Navy stationed either in Portsmouth (engineering course submarines) or in Fast-lane in Scotland so he stays here when he sees his son. During the week we use the bedroom for a supervising help as wee need help during the night to.

Does anyone have any ideas on the points that may affect us financially or with our home regarding the bedroom tax.
