Have they entered your property before? Unless you have granted them entry before they are not allowed to break in no matter what they tell you.

Have you read the link Sapphire posted up yet?

            Re: Jacobs Bailiffs

They are only allowed to force entry if they have previously gained peaceful entry or they are collecting magistrates fines otherwise they are NOT permitted to enter your home without your consent

Contact them & tell them you have taken advice & been told that by even making such a threat they are committing an offense & that you intend to report them unless you get an immediate written apology & an assurance that they will not attempt to break & enter your home

Thankyou for your help so far.I havent let them in because I listened to your advice! They are so intimidating its unbelievable! Ive been to work today and my friend stayed with me last night and stayed here today and they have knocked twice am and pm trying to catch me in. should i send them my income and expenditure now and ask them to make me an offer? or should i make offer? Ive got hardly any disposable income so where does that leave me? I have the link yes.

                Re: Jacobs Bailiffs

Keep doing what you're doing - do not let them in no matter what they say to you or for whatever reason.

If you deny them entry, eventually they will have no choice but to back off and hand it back to the local council.

Do you actually owe money for this council tax? If yes, you should pay the council.

                    Re: Jacobs Bailiffs

I would telephone the council and demand that they deal with you, especially in light of the above. It's the least they should do.

Given that the bailiffs told you that you "had to let them in or they would break in" I would make a complaint about them - details in the link previously given.

Also in the link is how to check if the bailiff that called is certificated, I suggest you do this to.

                      Re: Jacobs Bailiffs

You need to put that in writing to them then, unless the bill from 2000 relates to your previous property? Did you owe council tax there? If so, they might have traced your new address and be enforcing that debt as well. Ask them for a breakdown of everything that you owe, amounts, dates, addresses etc.

                        Re: Jacobs Bailiffs

Hi, not sure if it is any help, but when I had problems with Jacobs regarding a disputed CTax debt, I got onto the council (Manchester)
Shocked me, as they were actually quite helpful.
Said they would deal with it. To a certain extent they did. They actually listened to me and a week later I got a letter to say that the amount I owed was £300 less than they were claiming.

Jacobs had threatened to break in and were evasive about giving a costs breakdown. When I called their office, I was talked down to by someone who sounded as if they had just left school. The bailiif himself was quite young - (Sure I could see the stabilisers on his VW Golf!), so I wasn't going to let him get the better of me!

Anyway, when they visited a few weeks later, I told the bailiff ( a different one) it had been sorted that if he didn't leave my property before I counted to 20, then I would take his paperwork and shove it somewhere that was not recommended by the association of rectologists!! (!)

That was about a year ago and (*Touches Wood*) they have not darkened my doorstep since.
This is only my experience and in no way am I advising that members should do the same!!
