  • Car crashed into mine, insurance company says I've no proof but I have a voice record

    Hello,

Any advice would be much appreciated on this. A car reversed into the front of my car when I was stationary at traffic lights.
The driver gave me his details and admitted liability. I didn't trust him when I saw him ( he looked like a rich boy racer type, judgemental I know!), so I secretly recorded his voice admitting he had crashed into me, how sorry he was and how it was all his fault. I also took a quick picture moments after it happened.

He left his address, name and tried to persuade me not to go through insurance, but told me he was with 'Comptons' ( doesn't exist). I reported it to my insurance company who have given me conflicting advice. They say due to nature of the bump he could claim I went into him. It turns out the guy was driving his father's car ( Boy racer, I guessed correctly!) and wasn't on his insurance and they only had third party.

My insurance company say they need his policy number. The boy racer sent me a text to say he'd reported it to his insurance company but this obviously wasn't true. He's also sent me numerous texts contradicting himself about who he is insured with, ( he claims it's with his father). So I reported him as a possible uninsured driver to police.

Now my insurance company say best case scenario it will be 50/50 and that the admission on the voice recording is useless. Is this correct? Can I take any more action? I have no witnesses and CCTV cameras were looking the other way apparently according to the council.

    Many thanks,

      Hi and welcome.

OK so you were hit by an uninsured driver.
What sort of insurance do you carry Full comprehensive/Third party Fire & theft/third party only? Road traffic act?
Do you also have legal expenses insurance?
How much to repair the damage to your vehicle?
If you are "fully comp" what is your excess?
