  • WTC/CTC query

Would a young couple both age over 25 with 6 month old child, both working over 16 hours per week with a joint income of £25,129 be entitled to any WTC and CTC. Nursery fees are £90 per week

Yes she tried that and HMRC calculator, but it doesnt seem to cover all situations. She is currently on maternity leave, and in receipt of stat mat pay, but will be back to work next month and will have to put baby in nursery a couple of days per week. The calculator shows she will be entitled to some WTC and CTC, but when she rang HMRC to clarify they said she wasnt/wouldnt be entitled to anything ??

She might have to give them another call when her Stat Mat ends (and she's back at work)

She has already rang them twice, and has been given different answers each time, both of which differ from the online calculator results. She will try them again and if she still cant get any sense out of them, she will have to wait till she resumes work next month

She should write, and ask for a written response setting out their calculations.
They prefer to work on the phones for a variety of reasons (quicker, cheaper and they can claim you misunderstood)
Get it in writing and you can pin them down and if necessary correct their errors
