    Re: savings in care home

    Hi susannicola,

I assume that you mean what is the level of savings you can have before it affects any local authority contributions toward the costs of care?
The level is currently £23,250. However there are different factors that need to be considered such as whether the person owns property, whether someone else is resident in the property and whether the level of care required is nursing care. This site may help:- https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.u...for-care-costs

This further site is a commercial organisation, which we have no connection with, but it does explain the basics quite well https://www.carehome.co.uk/fees/feesadvice.cfm

It is a bit of a minefield, it may be worth obtaining some formal advice on the level of fees being requested, if you suspect the local authority is not correct in it's assessment of the level of fees it is requesting.

Care assessments should have been carried out and there may be aspects of that requiring clarification. There ae many factors that are considered and can be questioned.

If on the other hand you are not questioning the level of fees and this is just a query whether there is a limit to the amount of savings a person can have who happens to be in a care home, the answer would be they can have as much as they want or have. It is their money or asset.

There are some very knowledgeable members on this forum who may add to your post.
I am a qualified solicitor and am happy to try and assist informally, where needed.

If in doubt you should always seek professional face to face legal advice.

A little better on Scotland than here all the info on this link http://www.careinfoscotland.scot/top...apital-limits/

If your spouse goes into care then these rules are about the property and the reasons it is disregarded as capital http://www.careinfoscotland.scot/top...apital-limits/
