  • Capital One Default

    Hi,

I am hoping to challenge a Capital One default to have it removed from my credit report.

The circumstances are that I took out the credit card in 2010 and ran into some financial difficulty from 2012 onwards. This resulted in taking out several payday loans. It’s important to point out my Capital One payments were always made on time.

In September 2014 I contacted Step Change and took out a payment management plan to pay off around 12 creditors, including Capital One. The payment plan was completed and all debts settled in full in June 2016.

I have recently checked my credit report and have seen that Capital One have recorded a default on my account.

The credit report shows that up until September 2014 my payments to Capital One were up to date. It seems as soon as I entered the debt management plan they defaulted my account.

The credit report also shows that, whilst in the debt management plan, Capital One were paid every month what my minimum payments would have been, sometimes in excess of. The account is showing £0 balance now, and has been since 2016, but the account is still showing defaulted.

My argument is that, looking purely at the payments, in ordinary circumstances this account would have never been defaulted so I don’t understand why it is recorded as such.

I dont know if it’s worth mentioning that none of the other creditors recorded anything negative on my credit report.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I have zero debt now and haven’t taken out a loan or any finance for over 4 years yet this one default is having a devestating impact on my ability to get a mortgage now.

    Thank you
