  • Settling my debt

Hi, new to this site, so any advice would be gratefully received.
Lost my job a few months ago, but have a lump left (24k) that I hope will clear most of my 48k debt.
I have had the debt (credit cards) since 2007 ish and entered a debt management plan around 2010 after struggling to keep up the payments.
My wifes salary and working tax credits do not give us a sufficient amount to carry on paying the debt plan, or if so only a tiny amount.
Most of the card have been sold onto other collectors apart from Capital one.
What is my best option with the lump I have left in order to rid myself of this situation?
Do I ask the Debt Management company to come up with the figures to pay some debts off?
Can it be done myself? I am not the sharpest tool in the box!
What % I am realistically likely to have to pay back?
We are currently in a moratorium state with the plan at the minute, which will end shortly and I need some help if possible on the best way forward.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

      Hi
It may depend on just when in 2007 the cards were opened

If it were me , I would be looking at sending a CCA request to each of them, this will see if the new owners actually have the means to enforce - if they don't you can either carry on paying, stop paying or use it as a bargaining tool to get a lower full and final settlement

Who are you in debt management with? There is no need to pay a fee to any debt management companies .

moneysave, used to be eurodebt, not sure what % they would take for negotiating the settlement.
I paid them approx. 3k initially at the end of 2010 at the start of the management plan.

Am I best getting Moneysave to sort out the settlements or would they take a large %
Is it best to do it myself? struggling with it to be honest, thanks.
