  • VT and prolonged collection mot and tax now due

Hi I officially VT my car on 15th Jan with 2 weeks spent me on the phone and emailing over paperwork they couldn't open link to start with took 2 days to reply then it was signed correctly etc etc anyway now the mot and tax is due and collection isn't until 8th Feb! Where do I stand with this as legally from the 15 it's not mine ??

    Hi Betty,

Under a hire purchase type agreement, the car is never legally yours until you've made the final payment. There are however, clauses in the agreement which usually require you to maintain insurance and tax whilst the contract remains alive.

You said that you VT'd the car officially on 15 January, did you give them notice by phone or email or letter?

Is the vehicle on a private drive or on the road?
Sorry i'm just thinking out loud, it might be irrelevant, I am not employed in anyway in the legal profession, please ensure you research any advice I give before using it I have been known to be wrong on multiple occasions.

Just wondering how you got on with this as Mini have taken nearly 12 weeks to collect my car and mot and service now due. I’m
loathed to pay for it. They’ve not turned up 3 times to collect it and have given me £50 compensation. Had to change a tyre but when inspector came out car was in immaculate condition. No mention of mot but noted due a service. I have informed Mini that mot and service have run out on 3 occasions and they have not mentioned it in any correspondence. http://legalbeagles.info/forums/member/112944-bettyfinn
