Notice of intended prosecution - 38MPH in a 30MPH zone in hire car...

Hi Everyone,

I recently received the attached letter from Cleveland police requesting the identity of the driver of the car I hired from Avis car hire.

The letter states the car was caught doing 38MPH in a 30MPH area with 'manned equipment'.

The car hire company (Avis) have passed Cleveland Police my details as the person who hired the car (and charged me a £30 'admin fee for the privilege).

Before I make any reply to the letter I was wondering if anyone had any advice or if there is anything I should be mentioning in my reply?

The driver of the car at the time of the offence?

I was the only one who drove the car during the hire period

Then you admit to the offence or refuse to name the driver this can then create another offence its your choice hard to think of a defence to the speeding charge

I thought there might be some discrepancy in the letter or something to do with if it was sent within correct time frames etc, but if it's all tight I guess I'll just hold my hands up and take what's coming to me!

As long as the original NIP was sent to the hire company within 14 days the law will be satisfied.
