  • Downgrade to previous position without any reason?

Hi, my current position is a Warehouse Manager. About a year ago our company started developing and the Production plant needed to be moved to another building down the road. There is a small Warehouse area in the new building and I was asked to train a Warehouse Operative in order to handle goods inwards, storage etc…, which I successfully did. Somewhere along the way the idea of implementing a new system emerged and all the managers (including me) formed a team which was supposed to be trained to test if the system works. After the first meeting we were given roles and areas to cover in our suggestions for the system designers. I was never invited to the second and third meeting and noticed that instead of me the Warehouse operative I trained was in the room. After a while the Operations Manager suggested to the packing team that the Warehouse Operative will be running both warehouses after the system’s implementation. I have never been informed of any of the above, never received a single warning (on the contrary: my department was always among the highly evaluated by auditors), nevertheless I fear that could be downgraded. Is it possible and, if so, how come? Do I have to accept it if want to stay in the company ? Could you please shed some light on the matter as I am really in the dark here…

I think you need to be trying to get some clarity as to what your role is going to be once the new system has been implemented and what responsibilities you will have. What is your job title going to be, will your pay and conditions stay the same etc.

Knowing the answer to these questions will help decide what options you have going forward if there is indeed a demotion situation.
