  • can you claim more money after a small court hearing?

If I went to small claims court to sue a tradesman for a botched job, and I ask and got say £10,000 compensation. If I later find that the work will cost £15k to put right the botched job, can the small claims court award another £5k, or would I have to go to another court/small claims court to claim the extra money?

    thanks

You have to get your figures right to start with!
Can't have a second bite at the cherry

Put more properly successive related actions against the same defendant may in principle be an abuse of process. If you choose not to inform the court about the possibility of a second action will be in breach of the overriding objective

You should as a matter of course get three quotes for putting right the 'botched' work and then you can rely on those when claiming refund & compensation from the tradesman. As Des says, you can't have a second bite at the cherry, so get everything solid before starting.

Is the tradesman a Ltd company or a sole trader ? It will cost you a fair whack in court fees to bring the claim so it is a good idea to check that those costs will be covered, as well as they have the ability to actually pay any refund/compensation ordered if you do go on to win in court.
