  • Not being paid for gambling winnings

I'm not sure where to put this.

I decided to place a bet on paddy powers casino. My balance started at £520 and every number I chose lowered my balance by 50p (£519.50, £519 etc), down to £515. After ssome gambling I took my balance up to £542 but upon leaving the table I realised my balance was £520 and the winnings went to a bonus fund. As I gambled it said I was using my own money, so why, once I won, was PP allowed to suddenly decide that I was using a bonus fund? I spoke to the live chat (transcript included at the end) and he was no help. Do I have a leg to stand on?

Actually transcript of chat not included right now because it won't let me paste from my iPhone, I can edit it in tomorrow though.

Re: Not being paid for gambling winnings

    It let me paste now?

02:03:29 PM] Hi, my name is Robert. How may I help you?

[02:04:05 PM] Steven: Hi Robert, I just gambled using my money on roulette but rather than saying "Balance" it says "Casino bonus". I never used a casino bonus, it was my own money.

[02:04:41 PM] Robert: Are you a new user to Casino?

[02:05:07 PM] Steven: Yeah I think I only done sportsbook and bingo before

[02:06:05 PM] Robert: Could I get your username?

    [02:06:09 PM] Steven: <retracted>

[02:07:13 PM] Robert: For security purposes, could you please confirm for me, your mothers maiden name and the last deposit amount made into your account?

[02:08:32 PM] Steven: <retracted> and...£<retracted>? It was a while ago.

[02:09:49 PM] Robert: Just a moment please.

[02:12:06 PM] Robert: How much is showing in the amount Steven?

[02:12:26 PM] Steven: £520 Balance, £22 Casino Bonus

[02:14:43 PM] Robert: It would seem you have availed of the free £5 bonus for Casino.

[02:14:59 PM] Robert: Which basically has a wagering requirement in place before you can release funds from winnings.

[02:15:54 PM] Steven: But I never. And this was misleading then because when I was staking on the roulette it wasn't saying "Balance: £520" after I wagered a £5 stake, it said "Balance: £515"

[02:16:13 PM] Steven: that doesn't imply i am using any kind of bonus

[02:16:21 PM] Steven: that implies that i am using my own money

[02:18:09 PM] Robert: Basically it would seem only the sum of £22 is in the bonus itself.

[02:18:53 PM] Robert: But any use of your money in Casino goes into this bonus amount until the wagering is met which is 50 times the original amount aka £250.

[02:20:29 PM] Steven: That's just crazy though. If I lost, as per my balance updating, I'd have been at £515 rather than £520 with no bonus. So why if I win does it go to my bonus fund but if I lose it just comes off my real money. Especially when I never play casino so I didn't even want the bonus.

[02:21:41 PM] Robert: Unfortunately all the amounts played in Casino goes to the wagering limit and the bonus and any winnings cannot be released until it is met.

[02:23:35 PM] Steven: Isn't it illegal though to basically withhold my winnings when I hadn't taken out any bonus but apparently one was applied? And again I refer back to the fact that the balance on screen whilst gambling made no mention of a bonus being used, only that my real money was in play.

[02:25:57 PM] Robert: The bonus itself is applied upon entry to the Casino site, the bonus lasts up to a 72 hour period.

[02:26:23 PM] Robert: Once after this time, if the wagering requirement isn't met the bonus and any winnings in the fund are lost.

[02:28:07 PM] Steven: So I didn't ask for the bonus. It said I was using my own money when I was at the roulette table. If I don't release the winnings that were placed in the bonus place within 72 hours they are lost. This is not legal in any way.

[02:29:24 PM] Steven: If that is the bottom line though, I'd like the postal address of where I send information relating to a small claims court procedure because I'm not happy and even if it is only £22, it's my £22 won with my own money.

[02:30:21 PM] Robert: I understand your frustration in the matter, all the information on said bonus can be found herehttps://casino.paddypower.com/promot...556#conditions

[02:30:33 PM] Robert: Like that, we can opt you out of it right now, but all funds will be lost upon doing so.

[02:31:36 PM] Steven: That's the thing, I don't want to lose my money. I'd rather leave it and take PaddyPower to a small claims court and get given £22+compensation for misleading and wasting my time.

[02:31:58 PM] Robert: Paddy Power plc, Power Tower, Blocks 1-3 Belfield Office Park, Beech Hill Road, Clonskeagh, Dublin 4.

[02:32:17 PM] Steven: The terms and conditions can say what they want, but if the casino is telling me I am using my own money then instead changing it's mind and using bonus funds, it's illegal.

[02:32:29 PM] Steven: Thank you, and can this conversation be emailed to me at all?

[02:32:55 PM] Robert: Yes, that is not a problem at all, once we end this chat I shall e-mail to <retracted> if that is okay?

[02:33:27 PM] Steven: Could it be <
retracted> ? The yahoo one is my Paypal address but not my main email address.

[02:34:05 PM] Robert: No problem, I shall send it along to the gmail account.

[02:34:21 PM] Steven: Thank you and have a nice day

[02:34:24 PM] 'Steven' disconnected ('Concluded by End-user').

I am afraid that is how some casinos work. Before you can withdraw winnings you have to win x times x amount! Its perfectly legal too

Gambling winnings are a 'gentleman's agreement' and not legally enforceable. This is a policy decision - gambling is not to be encouraged.

I agree with enquirer we have a threadon here about police powers at the moment moving this to these gambling sites if you must gamble do you realise that unlike in a casino or betting on a horse you have no proof that what you see online is real anything can be put on the screen to suit the operator can anyone say its not a fix?

That majorly sucks. I was given a bonus I never asked for, I was using my own real cash (so if I lost, I was losing real money but when I win, it gives me a bonus fund). It's more or less a scam but if it's within the law there isn't much I can do!

            Thanks for the advice though.

Chances are it would have been all stated in the small print - did you read it or just ticked the terms and conditions box, like most people do?

Just ticked but at the same time, I know that the T&C's can say what they like, if a company misrepresents something (it showed me gambling with my own money then when I left decided it was in actual fact "bonus" money) then the T&C's mean nothing. This just isn't one of those circumstances though since there isn't laws protecting people from online casinos.

Its not misrepresentation if its in the terms and conditions, not matter how they displayed your account balance online. Basically what winnings you earn go into the bonus pot until you have won 50 times the amount of original £5 bonus given to you by the casino when you joined. This means you have to earn £250 in winnings, before the amount in your bonus pool is transferred to your real money account for it to be withdrawn. So you are playing with real money, but you can not withdraw your winnings till you have exceeded the wagering is met. It is all there in the terms and conditions.

It even says about the £5 bonus on their homepage!

Can I claim any other bonuses while I have this bonus active on my account?
If you trigger another Paddy Power Casino bonus while this (or any other Paddy Power Casino bonus) is active, the bonuses will queue in your bonus balance. The sum of all bonuses will be shown in your casino balance, however all wagering on eligible games will accrue towards the requirements of the first bonus to be accepted.
What games can I play to turn my bonus into withdrawable cash?
